Reynhard Sinaga, Britain’s most prolific rapist, has been the subject of a reported prison attack, which is believed to have been a planned hit by fellow inmates. Sinaga, 41, was convicted in January 2020 for a series of horrific sex offences, including 136 rapes, committed against young men in Manchester. He had tricked his victims into taking a date-rape drug before attacking them in his flat. Currently serving a minimum sentence of 40 years behind bars, Sinaga’s crimes have left a deep scar on the country, and now, his actions are catching up with him in the very prison system he currently resides in.

The attack reportedly took place at HMP Wakefield in July 2024, where Sinaga is being held, and was said to be narrowly stopped by prison officers before serious harm could be done. Sources have described Sinaga as being “in danger” in prison, with many inmates targeting him due to the depravity of his crimes. A prison insider said: “Sinaga is arrogant and universally loathed. He is a clear target in prison because of his depraved crimes. He was seconds away from extremely serious harm. He is in danger.” It is believed that the attack was part of a planned effort to bring justice to the rapist within the prison walls.
Sinaga’s attacker, Jack McRae, 32, has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm with intent following the incident and has since been moved to Frankland Prison in Durham. This assault is just the latest in a series of events that have highlighted the extent of hatred for Sinaga among those he now shares a prison with.
The Horror of Sinaga’s Crimes
Reynhard Sinaga arrived in the UK from Indonesia in 2005 to pursue his studies. Over the next decade, he carried out an appalling campaign of sexual abuse, drugging and raping young men in his Manchester city centre flat. Sinaga was not only a rapist but also a meticulous predator who carefully selected his victims. He would prowl the streets near his flat, looking for vulnerable men separated from their friends during nights out.
Detective Sergeant Kimberley Hames-Evans, who investigated the case, said, “He would just go prowling the streets looking for his victims. Young guys on a night out in Manchester city centre with friends. They’d become separated somehow. Maybe ejected for being too drunk or gone outside for a smoke. The point at which then Sinaga makes his move, picks them off.”
Sinaga’s twisted tactics extended far beyond his attacks. He kept disturbing records of his actions, capturing them on his phone in hours upon hours of footage. The footage was so horrific that investigators were forced to view and document it, revealing a chilling catalogue of Sinaga’s abuse. In total, 3 terabytes of data were found on his devices, equivalent to 750,000 photos and 750 DVDs. The number of victims Sinaga subjected to his vile crimes rose steadily year on year, from 15 victims in 2014 to 60 in 2017. DS Hames-Evans described the footage as “horrendous,” saying, “There were videos upon videos of young men being sexually abused and raped.”
Sinaga’s predatory behaviour was so extreme that he kept personal belongings from his victims as grotesque “trophies,” even going so far as to access their personal social media accounts to collect their private photos. His callousness extended to using his victims’ personal details to further his own sickening enjoyment.
A Justice Yet to Be Served?
Despite Sinaga’s conviction, the horror of his crimes continues to reverberate throughout British society, and now, within the walls of British prisons. While Sinaga remains a figure of universal loathing, his attackers’ actions signal that some measure of justice may be found outside the judicial system.
